Lesson 4 – Using IXL to Reinforce Unit Skills Used
Picture

Lesson Overview: Students will practice the following skills: convert between tables, graphs, mappings, and lists of points, complete a function table from an equation, interpret the graph of a function when given a word problem and complete a table and graph a linear function.
Resources or Materials Needed:
• Each student will need a computer will internet capability, with access to the IXL website. The content in this lesson does not need a subscription.
New Technology Resource: IXL website (free version)
Lesson Objective: Students will use this exercise to help gain proficiency in converting between the various representations of functions (graphs, tables, equations or word problems).
Time: (2) 50-minute periods

Lesson Plan 3

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activity – Bell Ringer

Step 2: Learner Participation – Students will go to computer lab to work on IXL a drill and practice website to build their confidence in the multiple representations of functions. Students will go to the IXL website at the following URL: https://www.ixl.com/math/algebra-. They will complete all of the reviews under the Relations and Functions sections. Q.1 through Q.6 will be day one instruction, and Q.7 through Q.11 will be day two of instruction.

Relations and functions
Q.1 Relations: convert between tables, graphs, mappings, and lists of points

Q.2 Domain and range of relations

Q.3 Identify independent and dependent variables

Q.4 Identify functions

Q.5 Identify functions: vertical line test

Q.6 Find values using function graphs

Q.7 Evaluate a function

Q.8 Evaluate a function: plug in an expression

Q.9 Complete a function table from a graph

Q.10 Complete a function table from an equation

Q.11 Interpret the graph of a function: word problems

Step 3: Assessment – Students will be assessed using the following behavior rubric.

Step 4: Exit Ticket
  • Ask students to remember the activities from the two-day lesson. Pose the following 2 questions for their written response:
    • What method of student participation do you like best, and why?
    • What is one area you are still struggling with?
